The Prophet's ﷺ ring was on the hand of Abu Bakr, then ʿUmar, then ʿUthman ﭬ. While ʿUthman was at the well of Aris, the ring fell — and they could not retrieve it. This was in the sixth year of ʿUthman's caliphate, said to be the beginning of the fitna.
