Cave of Ḥirāʾ — Site of Revelation

Significance

In this narrow cave, the Revelation first descended upon the Prophet ﷺ when he was forty. Jibrīl came and said, "Read!" He replied, "I do not read." Jibrīl seized him and pressed him until he was overwhelmed, then released him — three times — then recited: {Read in the name of your Lord who created}. The cave faces the Kaʿba and only fits one person seated.
