Thabīr — Chief of the Makkan Mountains

Significance

Mount Thabīr is among the great mountains of Makka, running east of Minā and overlooking it. The Arabs mentioned it in their poetry and rites; the people of Jāhiliyya used to say in their talbiya when pouring forth from Muzdalifa: "Rise, O Thabīr, that we may set out." When Islam came the Prophet ﷺ abolished that, prescribing the talbiya and takbīr, and moved forward calmly before sunrise.
