The Long Prostration

Significance

Aḥmad and others narrated that the Prophet ﷺ led his Companions in prayer and prolonged the prostration until some of them thought he had passed away. When he raised his head they asked him, and he ﷺ said: "It was not as you thought, but my Lord consulted me concerning my Umma — what shall I do with them? I said, 'O my Lord, turn them to repentance.' It was said: he will be given [what he asked]. And I was told: if you do this, I am pleased." The mosque is built on the place where this long sajda occurred.
