Salmān al-Fārisī's ﭬ Counsel

Significance

When the Prophet ﷺ was informed of the coalition of the aḥzāb against Madīna in year 5, he consulted his Companions. Salmān al-Fārisī ﭬ said: 'O Messenger of Allah, in the land of Persia when we were besieged we would dig trenches (khandaq) around us.' The plan pleased the Prophet ﷺ and the Muslims, and they hurried to dig the trench in the north of Madīna, where the entrance lay exposed. The Muhājirūn and Anṣār vied over Salmān — 'Salmān is of us!' — and the Prophet ﷺ said: 'Salmān is of us, the People of the House.'
