"A Blessed Valley"
A feature within · Wādī al-ʿAqīq
Significance
Al-Bukhārī narrated from ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb ﭬ that the Prophet ﷺ said: "A messenger came to me from my Lord tonight and said: Pray in this blessed valley, and say: an ʿumra within a ḥajj." This valley is Wādī al-ʿAqīq. Allah singled it out with blessing among the wadis of the Ḥijāz, and the scholars affirmed the desirability of prayer within it. It runs for tens of kilometres, passing west of Madīna and emptying into Wādī al-Ḥamḍ.
The recommended practice
It is sunna for the pilgrim to pray the two rakʿas of iḥrām in Wādī al-ʿAqīq when passing through it.
