Significance
Ḥamza ibn ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib ﭬ — the Prophet's ﷺ uncle and milk-brother — was martyred on the day of Uḥud at the hand of Waḥshī ibn Ḥarb, who had been commissioned by Hind bint ʿUtba in revenge for her father, whom Ḥamza had killed at Badr. When the Prophet ﷺ saw him mutilated, he grieved intensely and said: 'I shall never be afflicted by anything like your loss; I have never stood in a place more infuriating to me than this.' He ﷺ named him 'Chief of the Martyrs.' He was buried in one grave with his nephew ʿAbd Allāh ibn Jaḥsh ﭬ.
