Significance

Muṣʿab ibn ʿUmayr ﭬ was the standard-bearer of the Muslims on the day of Uḥud. Before Islam he had been the most refined and pampered of the youth of Quraysh; he was killed ﭬ so poor that only a shroud too short to cover him was found — if his head was covered, his feet showed; if his feet, his head. The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Cover his head with it, and place idhkhir grass over his feet.' On seeing him he ﷺ said: 'I have seen what they did to you — Allah refused any but that you be better than what you were.'
