"These I Bear Witness For"

A feature within · Cemetery of the Martyrs of Uhud

Significance

The Prophet ﷺ used to go out to the graves of the Uḥud martyrs every year and say: 'Peace be upon you for what you patiently bore — how excellent is the final abode.' As he departed from Uḥud, passing the Muslim dead, he said: 'I am a witness for these on the Day of Resurrection. There is no one wounded in the way of Allah but comes on the Day of Resurrection with his wound flowing — the colour that of blood, the scent that of musk.' He ﷺ ordered them buried where they fell, in their blood, unwashed.

The recommended practice

Visiting the graves of the Uḥud martyrs and praying for them is Sunna — not seeking blessing from the earth nor circumambulating a grave.
