The Second Pledge of ʿAqaba

Significance

In the thirteenth year of Prophethood, seventy-three men and two women of the Anṣār came to the Prophet ﷺ at ḥajj and pledged to him at al-ʿAqaba on nuṣra and manʿa — to defend him as they defended their own women and children. This pledge was the practical foundation for the Hijra to Madīna. The Prophet ﷺ chose from them twelve nuqabāʾ (representatives). It is known as the "Pledge of War."
