The Letter in Her Braid

Significance

The riders overtook the travelling woman at Rawḍat Khākh. She denied having any letter. ʿAli ﭬ said: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not lie, nor did we. You will bring out the letter or we shall strip you." When she saw they were in earnest, she brought it out from her braid. They returned it to the Prophet ﷺ: it was from Ḥāṭib to people among the polytheists of Makka, informing them of some of the Prophet's ﷺ affair. The place is in a valley between Makka and Madīna.
