The Gathering of the Anṣār and the Muhājirūn

A feature within · Saqīfat Banī Sāʿidah

Significance

The Anṣār had gathered around Saʿd ibn ʿUbāda, the chief of Khazraj ﭬ, meaning to pledge to him as leader. Men spoke among them on the matter of the imāra. When word reached Abū Bakr and ʿUmar ﭺ, they hurried to the saqīfa and reminded the Anṣār of the Prophet's ﷺ ḥadīth: "The leaders are of Quraysh." They recalled the Anṣār's virtue and their precedence in supporting the Religion. Hearts settled, and the Anṣār accepted the prophetic ruling.
