ʿUthmān's ﭬ Purchase of the Well

A feature within · Well of Uthman (Bi'r Rumah)

Significance

When the Muslims arrived in Madīna they found no sweet water save that of Bir Rūma, owned by a Jew who sold water in skins. The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Whoever buys the well of Rūma and eases things for the Muslims, Paradise is his.' ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān ﭬ bought it for thirty-five thousand dirhams and endowed it for the Muslims — it flows in his endowment to this day.
